Advanced Memoir: The Ultimate Memoir Workshop

Have you started your memoir or personal story, but need some expert help and coaching to get it to the next level? Do you need some friendly feedback on what’s working and what isn’t? Are you hungry for coaching from someone currently writing memoir with the biggest publishers out there?

If you have a memoir or personal story with at least three chapters done by the time of the retreat (even if they’re rough) you are invited! It will be a time of encouragement and help to get you to the finish line with a powerful story that will change lives.

Susy and Kathi will split their time between teaching and workshopping your current project. Each morning you will have time to work, and in the afternoon, we will take turns sharing our stories and hearing from Susy on ways to make the work stronger. Kathi will then work with you to find unique hooks and marketing ideas for sharing your memoir with the world.

New York Times best-selling author Susy Flory will teach and workshop your chapters with you, in these three key areas:

 -Voice:

What sets you apart from other authors in your genre? Editors are looking for a strong, distinctive voice that stands out from everyone else. Discover the secrets to refine and strengthen your own unique writing voice and use it to connect with your reader.

– Time Flow: Learn how to tame the external story and harness the power of various time flow techniques throughout your book. Discover powerful ways to signal to your reader where they are in the story, show the passage of time, and use flashbacks effectively to keep your audience spellbound.

– Advanced Storytelling: The hardest part of writing is knowing what to tell. Learn what to include and what to leave out to make it as powerful of a story as possible, and how to effectively balance the facts and the truth to highlight the heart of your work.

– How to Build a Memoir Platform

Kathi will workshop with each participant to create a platform to support your memoir story. Participants will discover their platform strength, and learn to build their audience while telling their story at the same time.
